A spiritual home...a house of service

We are a cozy bunch here at the Volunteers for Life House, tucked away in a tree-lined neighborhood near Griffith Park. Nearby our house is a recreation center and pool, plus a little grocery store and of course, our local parish, St. Bernard's Catholic Church. Our back yard is filled with citrus trees, and a beautiful jacaranda tree stands proudly out front.
The house has several bedrooms, a spacious kitchen area, a comfortable common area, but there is one more important aspect to our home. We have a chapel, complete with the Holy Eucharist, right here on the first floor. In this nexus of the house, we gather in prayer and meditation. Volunteers for life is more than a mere service organization, though that is the bread-and-butter of what we do here. But none of this can be done without prayer, which we do both individually and in community. Our prayer gives strength and support to all we do and helps us to tackle the difficult problems faced by those we serve.

friends abound!

We can't help but grow close here at VFL! We share a love of God and a tremendous, passionate desire to protect all human life, so it just makes sense that we form lasting friendships here at the house. We eat together, pray together, talk about everything and anything, share our troubles and our joys, and we even get to visit the California poppies together! (a favorite highlight of the year)
When a group of smart, dedicated Catholic come together, fun and excitement is bound to happen! We hold each other up with our great faith and our hopefulness, and we comfort each other with words of compassion and peace. Thus, the Volunteers are rather notorious for creating community, cooking fantastic meals together, singing praise to God together and being each other's support throughout our year together. Most of us come from outside Los Angeles, so getting around and getting acclimated to the big, bad City of Angels is always an adventure! in the end, however, it comes down to what we're here for, to bring dignity to women and families and to help them as they tackle the problems of unexpected parenthood.
